For shorter train distances, seat booking is not required. Power outlets with every seat. Credit Cards are accepted onboard. Trains are air conditioned. Sleeping Passengers have meals included (not while they’re asleep obviously!). Free checked-in baggage services for long-haul journeys.

Wi-Fi selected trains and stations. Long Distance trains along the east coast have a ‘Viewliner’ style of Sleeping Car. Superliner style on the West Coast has an additional Lounge for sightseeing.

Seats are on a first come first served basis.

Hot Showers are available to all sleeping passengers at the end of each corridor, with hot showers in bedroom style cabins (not while they’re asleep of course!).

 

Trails and Rails Interpretative Program

Particularly along the Coasts, Trail and Rails Interpretative program is included and run in association with the National Park Service on Sunset Limited, Southwest Chief, Heartland Flyer, Empire Builder, Texas Eagle, Coast Starlight, Crescent, City of New Orleans, Adirondack, Ann Rutledge, Maple Leaf and California Zephyr.

 

Tickets & Discounts

All the major credit card accepted and no extra charges for using major credit cards. Photo ID is required for passengers 15+ older. Crossing the US/Canada Border; simple, carry your passport or Driver’s License and or birth cert if under 16 and a North American citzen or visa if from other countries

 

Senior Travel

Senior travellers (62yrs+) can get receive 15% off the lowest fare on most trains. Seniors (60+) can also get 10% discount on cross-border train services to Canada. Proof of age required.

Book advance for cheaper fares. Fares can be higher during holiday season or peak times.Tickets can be booked up to 11 months in advance. Special deals or discounts cannot be combined. Photo ID may be required.Extra charges for sleepers

Free checked baggage services for long hauled journeys.Coach class seats at competitive prices, Sleepers more expensive. Pay for the room not just for the berth (bed). Your travel buddy can share the room and is entitled to meals also.Extra charge if bringing a bike onboard

Seniors

Receive 50% discount on the Downeaster. Available to seniors from the age of 62 and up. Photo ID Required. 62yrs+ get 15% off the lowest fare on most trains and a 10% discount on cross-border train services to Canada.

 

Northeast Regional Service 25% Price Reduction

Book 14 days in advance and get 25% off the price of a standard one way ticket fare. No Business class upgrades allowed

 

Passenger Discounts

3 day advance booking required to receive discounts. Valid Card and photo ID required. Discounts are not combinable. Discounts not valid on the Auto Train, the weekday Acela Express trains and certain Amtrak Thruway services or Business class, First class or sleepers.

 

Kids’s Discount

Kids aged between 2-15 years half pric. Kids under the age of 2 go free. Max 2 kids per adult.

 AAA discounts.

There are a wide rang of American Automobile Association (AAA) discounts.

Small print

For most long haul journeys, seating reservation is required which can be done online on a first come first served basi. No extra charge for seating reservation.

Coach Class reclining Seats

On long distance trains, coach class seats are extra spacious. On overnight sleeper trains, upgrades to a roomette or a bedroom may be on offer. Sightseer Lounge Car; Upper deck is an observation area. Business Class includes some complimentary stuff, and quiet car access. First Class Seating on Acela Express trains incl free meals and access to club Acela lounge.

Sleeping Accommodation

Types: Roomettes, Bedrooms, Bedroom Suite, Family Bedrooms and Special/Wheel chair accessible Bedrooms. All meals, drinks, bedding, etc included. Price per room not per passenger. Norm is one suitcase per sleeping passenger.
