Getting Around

Airport to Train Station; Zurich: Airport train station is situated at the basement level of the terminal. Geneva: Airport railway station is 300 metres away from the departure/arrivals section. Trains run directly into Geneva city centre every 5-10mins.

Onboard Stuff

Seats and Beds – Choice of 1st or 2nd class seating and a different range of sleeping facilitates, to suit every budget needs. SBB trains provide have high standards of comfort and service with free Wi-Fi and even kids playrooms available. Seating accommodation for both 2nd and 1st are both equally spacious and comfortable. There are electrical outlets and foldout tables for each seat. Quiet zones, business zones, Wi-Fi zones, family zones and family coaches are available on some coaches.

Baggage – SBB allows an average of 2/3 bags (25kg each) and ski (skis must be packaged). Bikes are allowed in the luggage van free of charge on most domestic trains. On some Lyria TGV trains, you must pre-book and pay a small fee.

Onboard Services - Free Wi-Fi, food trolley service, restaurant and bistro, business and quiet zones for you have a 1st class ticket and family zones with kids playrooms in 2nd class. Both 1st and 2nd class have access to restaurants and cafes. Most trains have a fancy restaurant and café onboard. 3 courses meals, lunches and a selection of alcohol beverages provided onboard. Ordinary food trolley services available also.

Station stuff – e.g. lockers, lost property service, automatic ticket machines, counters for special event tickets, currency exchange, cash transfer, luggage facilitates SBB travel agencies and free public wireless at all major stations. Zurich HBF offer a splendid authentic Swiss food market and shopping complex. Hostels, Hotels, cycling renting areas, tourist information centres are all next door to Zurich Station.

The Small Print

Local domestic trains do not require reservation

International train routes between Switzerland to Italy (Zurich, Bern – Milano, Venezia) require a reservation fee

Special scenic trains such as Bernina Express, Glacier Express, Golden Pass and Wilhelm Tell Express require a seating reservation fee also. However, you’ll receive significant discounts on ticket prices if you are a rail pass holder.
