Getting Around

Airport to Train Station

Shannon: Hourly bus services to Limerick or Ennis train stations. Cork: Air Coach bus to the main bus station and a 10 minute walk from the main railway station. Dublin: Buses to main city stations. Belfast: Bus to Antrim train or translink buses to Belfast Central Station for high speed rail to Dublin.

Of course ferry types and locations vary depending on how long you have, the price you’re willing to pay and where you plan to land in Ireland.

Travelling within Ireland - From Dublin trains depart from two main railway stations, depending on what part of Ireland you are aiming for, Connolly Station or Heuston Station.


Tickets & Discounts

15-25 age card available for reduced fares. Lower fares are available on the selected off-peak trains. Lower day saver fares are available on selected midweek morning services. Children under 5 are free when accompanied by a full fee paying adult. Children aged 5-15 years get a discount on their ticket. Seniors living permanently in Ireland aged 66 and over are entitled to avail of free travel. Discounted train travel to the main cities depending on time and day. Seats and Beds - 1st and 2nd class seating. No sleeping accommodation available.

Baggage - Baggage racks at the end of each carriage. No weight or baggage restrictions On Intercity services Iarnród Éireann trains can carry a minimum of three bicycles. Charges vary from station to station.Bicycles are allowed on commuter services at allocated times.  Pets can travel as long as they are with their owner and not left unattended.

Station stuff - Lockers available at Dublin Heuston station.

The small print

Reservations are not compulsory, though it is advised when travelling in busy times of year to book in advance and can be done for free. Reservations can be made 28 days before the train departs.
