ICE trains, some EC trains and IC trains have bistro bars, restaurants, quiet zones, 6 seater compartment and an exclusive business class seating area.

Dogs allowed onboard, provided that they are on a leash and wearing a muzzle.

Wireless internet access is available aboard many trains and lounges. Staff at the Mobility Service Centre will provide assistance if needed. Special parent and child compartment with changing facilities and a small play area available on certain trains. Luggage facilitates available at all Bahn stations. Bicycles are not allowed on board of ICE trains.

All announcements are made in English and Germany.

Seating reservation is compulsory on the ICE and some major intercity trains, if you are using a rail pass. If you are buying a single ticket online, it is usually added automatically.

No luggage restrictions. However, the norm is 2 luggage bags per passenger and one hand piece bag.

Types of Trains; Intercity Trains (IC) run every hour or two hours, within Germany only. Eurocity Trains (EC) runs every hour or two hours in Germany and neighbouring countries. Regional Express (RE) connects cities at regular intervals and links to local long distance trains. Regionalbahn (RB) is the basic service from all local stations and provides connection between the regions and the city centres and to Regional Express. S-Bahn (commuter train) serves populated areas, leaves at short, regular intervals. City Night Line offers seat, couchette or comfortable sleeper (with shower etc facilities) to different European destinations
