Onboard Stuff
Seats and Beds – Most services offer both 1st and 2nd class seating and sleeping accommodation.
Baggage - Luggage should not exceed 20 kg.
Onboard Services- Every train has a restaurant carriage. On longer journeys, like Trans-Siberian, you’ve got a lot of stops along the way (10-20 minutes long). There the local people sell home-made food.
Station stuff - A tourist visa allows stays of up to 30 days. A business visa allows a longer stay, but is more expensive. A transit visa allows up to 10 days in transit, but you aren’t allowed to spend time in Moscow, so a tourist visa is usually better.
The Small Print
First, you need to always present your passport when buying a Russian ticket or boarding a train. Most foreign nationals, including those from the UK, are required to have entry visas to travel to the Russian Federation. Citizens of former CIS Republics, except Georgia and Turkmenistan, may enter Russia with their national passports. If you are in transit through Russia and do not leave the airport, then you will not need a visa. However, if you are in transit and need to leave the airport, for example to stay overnight in a hotel or transfer to a different airport, then you will need a visa.
