Most rail providers operate InterCity trains and offer services between cities neighbouring countries. InterCity trains are faster and more comfortable like the ultra fast ICE trains and more luxurious trains with Thalys. Passengers usually will have the option of using cheaper slower trains.
Inter Euro City (ICE) trains are operated by Bahn, the German main rail provider and run between major international cities in and near Germany.
Best advice is to book far in advance for the cheapest fare. The sooner you book, the cheaper its going to be! You can book as far back as 2-3months with most EU rail providers. For international rail providers, it can be up to 9-11 months in advance.

Bikes, skis and other larger pieces of luggage can be brought onboard. Few rail providers charge a fee. But best to check with specific rail provider, before departure. ICE trains don’t allow bikes.
Nearly all rail providers offer group, family, senior and kids discounts. Special offers are available usually off peak but also for tourist attractions and other public transport.
Most rail providers are wheelchair friendly.
Usueally two types of seating accommodation: Economy or Business. Wi-Fi is available on trains, however recipient can be poor, so don’t hold your breath on it.
Seating reservation is sometimes compulsory for Rail Pass Holders, particularly for ICE or major Intercity train.
And some trains offer overnight sleeping accommodation, at an additional surcharge. Book well in advance for the cheapest deals. There are generally storage luggage lockers in mostl stations.
